When the NZ Bowhunters Society was formed the only bows available were recurve bows and longbows and it was 20 years before the first animal was claimed with a compound bow. Since then however compounds have dominated our hunting, but some of our members still choose to use the more traditional bow types.
A recent request was made to list the top ten animals taken by traditional bows for each species. This information is available on our NZBS database and is listed below (as at 1/06/24). The requirements for entry are as for the existing Record Book, i.e. The head must have been officially scored and must also have been presented at an NZBS annual tournament.
